Our records indicate that your child is not currently registered with a GP practice. This may be as you have moved or your child has been removed from their patient list.
GP surgeries are usually the first contact if you have a health problem. They can treat many conditions and give health advice. They can also refer you to other NHS services.
Anyone in England can register with a GP surgery. It's free to register. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number but it is helpful if you take any documents you do have.
For your child to have access to GP care for non-urgent issues and access vital health services including the immunisation programme it is recommended that you register them with GP as soon as you are able.
You can use the Find a GP service to look for a GP surgery: Find a GP
In the search results you can see:
-
if a GP surgery is currently accepting patients
-
reception opening times
-
reviews of the surgery
Once you've chosen a surgery, you'll need to fill in a registration form. These are usually available on the surgery's website, or you can pick one up at the surgery.
You can also download a Family doctor services registration form (GMS1) from GOV.UK, fill it in and hand it to the surgery.
Why do I need to register
Many children will be unwell at some point and being registered with a GP will make seeing a doctor much quicker and more convenient when you need it. Most parents and carers register their children with their own GP practice.
GP surgeries also provide routine immunisations. If you are not registered your child may miss out.
